On Friday, October 31, 2025, a member of the Felician Sisters of Moon Township, for 66 years, Sister Mary Roseann died at the age of 86, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent in Buffalo, New York. Sister was born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Louis and Antoinette Betz Godel.
Sister served the Church and the Felician Community in the internal works of the Community in food service, as the laundress, arts and crafts coordinator, landscaping and composting for a period of 50 plus years. Sister Mary Roseann was also the assistant to the local minister of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Convent from 1982 to 1985.
As her health began to fail, Sister Roseann was transferred to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Care Center in Buffalo, New York. There, she continued to serve the sisters by sewing and landscaping, tasks she performed with a willing heart until she became ill and was hospitalized. She died very peacefully surrounded by the nursing personnel and sisters who loved her.
Sister Mary Roseann was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Antoinette Godel, her two brothers, Philip and Louis Godel, and her sister, Kathleen Hessert. She is survived by her brother, James Godel and two sisters, Mary Lou Ridenour and Susan Wozniak along with nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Sanvito Funeral Home in Coraopolis, PA, on Friday, November 7, from 2-4 and 6-8, p.m., with a Sharing of Memories at 7:00 p.m. Her body will be transferred to the Convent Chapel on Friday evening and will be available for viewing until the time of the funeral. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 8, at 10:30 a.m. in the Convent Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Felician Sisters Retirement Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.
