Obituary

Sister Leah Marie Turberville, on Friday, September 16, 2022, a member of the Felician Sisters of Moon Township, for 55 years at the age of 73, died at UPMC East Hospital, in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, after an extended illness.  Sister was born in St. Mary’s, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Leah (Gemach) and Jack Turberville.

Sister Leah’s ministry to the Church and the Felician Congregation was that of internal works of the community and was focused primarily in food service.  Sister Leah Marie prepared meals for the sisters in St. Joseph Hall Infirmary, Coraopolis for approximately 15 years as well as St. Anne Home in Greensburg, Pennsylvania for 12 years.  For more than 12 years, Sister was the activities aide also at St. Anne Home and served as the assistant manager at Leo Meyer Manor in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania for 5 years.

Declining health and frequent hospitalizations caused her to be admitted as a resident of St. Anne Home the last two years of her life.

Sister Leah Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Leah and Jack Turberville.  She is survived by two sisters, Susan Harper and Sandra (Gary) Burcin, two brothers, Steve and (Cyndi) Turberville, Scott and (Amy) Turberville, as well as the following nieces and nephew: Julie and (Matt) Kaufman, Michelle and (Chad) Benninger, Melanie and (Kyle) Braden and Melissa and (Luke) Billman as well as Gabrielle, Lilly and Cooper Turberville.  Sister leaves behind greatnieces/nephews: Angelo, Isabella, Connor, Jack and Nolan and approximately a family of 500 sisters in North America.

Family and friends will be received at the Sanvito Funeral Home at 1316 Fourth Avenue,  Coraopolis, PA, on Friday, September 23rd, from  2 – 4 and 6 - 8 p.m., with a Sharing of Memories at 7:00 p.m. After the sharing, the body will be transferred to the Felician Sisters Chapel at 1500 Woodcrest Avenue in Coraopolis, PA.    There will be additional viewing on Saturday morning, September 24th, in the chapel from 9:30 a.m., until the time of the funeral.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 24th at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Felician Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Felician Sisters Retirement Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Arrangements by SANVITO FUNERAL HOME, Coraopolis (412) 264-3050.
