Maria Lacenere

May 26, 1933 ~ December 22, 2021 (age 88)

Maria Lacenere, born may 26, 1933 in Monopoli, Italy, died peacefully with family after a valiant battle with dementia. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William (Babe) Lacenere, her mother Domenica Lamparelli and father Cosimo Barnaba, her sister Marta Barnaba and her brother Carmine Barnaba. She is survived by her granddaughters who brought her much joy, Nina Clements of Wisconsin, Annette Clements of Pittsburgh, and Lisa Clements and a great granddaughter Lucia Geddes of Indiana. Her sister Michela Barnaba mourns from Lecce Italy, and her brother  Giovanni Barnaba of Monopoli. Maria loved her many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews in Pittsburgh and Italy who will miss her dearly.

Maria was married in 1959 in Monopoli Italy, traveling to America to live in Coraopolis with her husband. She learned English by shopping with family.  Maria has always been a mover, and worker. Many remember her in the deli at the Kennedy Shop 'n Save.  She did not like to sit still and greatly enjoyed baking and cooking original recipes for her family. She always had a freezer full of treats ready for company. She enjoyed tending to her large vegetable garden and her beautiful flowers. She loved animals and enjoyed her companion pup Eva who insisted on walking around the neighborhood daily. Maria loved going shopping and was known for her sharp sense of style. She enjoyed eating out with family and friends as well as finding her luck at the casino and with the lottery.

Maria will be missed by many; her astute observations and wise advice is irreplaceable.

Annette would like to thank the care givers of At Home Senior Services for helping keep her safe at home for as long as possible. Thank you for the genuine and compassionate care that was provided at Celebration Villa Memory Care and Transitions Hospice.  To honor Maria’s wishes, her service will be private.
