Elizabeth “Betty” Pendel, age 87, a longtime resident of Coraopolis, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Charles Selzer and Frances (Pauchnik) Selzer of Bloomfield. Betty was the loving wife of the late Frank J. Pendel. She was predeceased by her siblings Bernard, Michael (Mary Ann), and John (Bud) Selzer. Her surviving sister-in-laws are Betty Ann and Peggy Selzer. Betty was blessed with her two sons, Tom (MaryEllen) and David (Irene) and her grandchildren, Melanie and Christopher whom she adored. She was a parishioner of Saint Joseph Church in Coraopolis (now Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish) and a member of the Christian Mothers Guild, the Catholic Daughters of America and the SNPJ. She and Frank shared a love for polka music and spent many weekends enjoying this music with friends. Some of Betty’s fondest memories were from the “good old days” growing up on Yew Street in Bloomfield with her best friend Shirley. Early on, Betty worked for Bell Telephone as a telephone operator before becoming a stay-at-home mother. She was famous in her family for her baking skills, especially her chocolate chip cookies, snickerdoodles and pies.
Family and friends will be welcomed on Thursday, May 23 from 2-8 p.m. in the SANVITO FUNERAL HOME, 1316 Fourth Ave., Coraopolis. Prayers in funeral home on Friday, May 24 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
