Cynthia Ankrom Obituary

Cynthia (Cindy) Ann Ankrom, 64, of Coraopolis was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.  Born November 4,1956, in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of the late George and Helen (Bomblosky) Opeka, loving mother of two children; Michael A. (Emily) Ankrom of Ambridge, and Ashley (Michael) Verostek of Stowe Twp.  Proudest grandmother of Logan M. Ankrom and Xander F. Schlag. Niece of Geraldine (Bomblosky) Williard, sister of Andrew Opeka of Carnegie, and Robert Opeka of Oakdale.  Beloved friend of Leona (Larry) Brusca of Baden, and Debby Morrison of Marysville, OH.  She will be greatly missed for her fiery personality, stories of triumph, strong selfless nature and loving acceptance of all who came in contact with her.

She was a mother of two, but also “mum” to many children she graciously welcomed into her home in times of need.  A strong protector, tough and loving figure to many in the community.  She enjoyed cooking, baking and socializing with many friends, and was never short for words in any situation.

Cindy graduated from South Fayette High School in 1974 and lived peacefully in the home she loved where she raised her children in Coraopolis.  For the past several years, she battled many physical ailments with courage and continued support of family, friends, and neighbors, to whom she is most grateful.

At Cindy’s request, there will not be a visitation.  A private funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Help of Christians, in McKees Rocks on January 27 at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in her honor.
