Betty J. Murray

Betty Jane Murray (Stiney), age 97, of Robinson Township, and formerly Moon Township, on Friday, August 29, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Nick and Stella Szost Stiney; beloved wife of 34 years to the late Paul E. Murray; cherished mother of the Honorable Mary P. Murray and her husband Christian G. Conti; also survived by her treasured goddaughter Cindy Lesifko; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Sophie and Charles Erwin.

Betty worked at both Homestead Valve and Allstate Insurance as a Personnel Manager and went on to earn her Master’s degree in Business Administration from Duquesne University and then taught at the former Duff’s Business Institute. She also worked as a substitute business teacher at Sto-Rox High School and substituted at St. Joseph Catholic School in Coraopolis and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic School. In 1992 she obtained her real estate license and sold real estate for Coldwell Banker until her retirement in 2015. 

A devout Catholic, Betty taught CCD at St. Joseph and St. Margaret Mary parishes; she was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Margaret Mary and at Sewickley Valley Hospital. She was a longtime volunteer at Sewickley Valley Hospital, the Felician Sister’s Convent, and also administered the Friendly Visitor Program at the Coraopolis Presbyterian Church.  She served on the Moon Township Library Board and was a member of the Coraopolis Elks #1090.

Friends welcome Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Anthony J. Sanvito Funeral Home, (412-264-3050), 1316 4th Ave, Coraopolis, PA 15108. Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in St. Margaret Mary Church, Moon Township. Everyone please meet the family at the church.  Interment to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Moon Township.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Felician Sisters of North America, 1500 Woodcrest Ave., Coraopolis, PA  15108, in Betty’s memory, would be greatly appreciated.

The family would like to thank Darlene, Brenda, Mary Beth and Tara at Angels for the Elderly for the exceptional care Betty received since 2021 and also her nurse, Colleen and the rest of the staff at Good Samaritan Hospice, for the care they provided during the final months of Betty’s life.
