Sr. Mary Rene' Procopio

Sister Mary Rene' Procopio, a member of the Felician Sisters of Moon Township for 55 years, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the age of 73.

Sister was a native of Mt. Carmel, PA, and was the daughter of the late Mary (Mirarchi) and Samuel Procopio.

Her ministry to the church was primarily in the field of elementary education where she was a teacher for 15 years and an elementary school principal for 21 years, six of which were at Holy Spirit School in Mt. Carmel, PA from 1995-2001.  In 2001, Sister Mary Rene' took on the challenge of beginning the Mooncrest Afterschool Program which served at-risk children from grades 1-6. Sister Mary Rene' was passionate about this ministry and saw it develop over the next 16 years to what it is today-- a homework support component, summer programs and services to adults.

Sister Mary Rene' was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Ralph, Lavier, and Andrew. Sister Mary Rene' is survived by her sisters, Liz Veach of Kulpmont, PA, and Ramona Barella of Mt. Carmel, PA, along with numerous nieces and nephews. In additon, Sister Mary Rene' leaves behind approximately 1,300 Felician Sisters worldwide.

Family and friends will be received in the Felcian Sisters Central Convent, 1500 Woodcrest Avenue, Coraopolis, PA 15108, on Friday, March 16, 2018, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, with a Sharing of Memories at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 12:30 pm in the Convent Chapel. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mooncrest Afterschool Program, the Felician Sisters Retirement Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
